"
recognizes one outstanding member each year at it's annual award dinner in each of the three disciplines of public safety: Fire Service, Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Services.

The purpose of the award is to identify and honor those individuals who go about their daily duties day after day, year after year, in service of their community in their role as a member of the public safety community.  It is these individuals who have dedicated their lives to the service of others.  These individuals are the true heroes in their respective communities that we sometimes take for granted.  Because these individuals have selflessly dedicated their lives to public service, our communities are a much safer and better place to live in.

While heroes traditionally are honored for their actions during one specific incident, this award is more a Lifetime Achievement Award where the recipient is honored for a career of being that unsung hero."

Chief Doug Moorhead of Woodstock Police Department presented the award.  He shared the following information at the awards dinner held at the Mount Washington Hotel on October 30, 2009.

Ken has been involved in medical services for over 30 years.  He grew up in Decator, Georgia.  He graduated from LaGrange College in 1965 with degrees in Religion & Philosophy and Speech & Drama.  He also attended Graduate school at Emory College and University of Georgia.

Since arriving in New Hampshire he has been a productive, dedicated member of the community.  He was the Hotel Manager for years at the Loon Lodge at Loon Mountain.  In the early 1970's he was asked by Sherman Adams to take a place on the board of directors of the Linwood Medical Center and has been a dedicated member of the board since.  He has been the President of the Board of Directors for over a decade.

Under his guidance over the past three decades Linwood Ambulance Service has evolved from a single transport van, housed in a garage at the clinic with only a few ambulance attendants to what is now a professional service.  Currently the service has three ambulances and is housed in a state of the art facility that includes sleeping quarters, and a state of the art training room that is utilized by many.

In addition to volunteering for Emergency Medical Services, Ken has served as board member and president of the Lincoln-Woodstock Chamber of Commerce.  He is a founding member of the board for the North Country Center for the Arts and serves as a Trustee.  He donates more than 600 hours a year in to the center and has been a community actor for most of the past 22 years.  He has been the Town Moderator in Woodstock, NH for 34 years.

Congratulations Ken Chapman North Country EMS Provider of the Year.
